Position: Theatre Assistant
Status: Funded through Canada Summer Jobs, 8 weeks full time (35 hours per week)
Hours of Work: 9-5pm, May 26-July 18, 2025
Remuneration: $16.00/hr

Job Description / Responsibilities:
Reporting to the Marketing Manager, the Theatre Assistant is a helpful, detail-oriented individual responsible for supporting theatre operations during the summer tourism season. They will learn the day-to-day operations of a theatre while also:
- Handling stored archive materials related to the theatre’s history
- Preparing and conducting guided tours for visitors
- Assisting with special events at theatre including Season Launch
- Developing marketing materials and social media content
Qualifications:
- Confident with public speaking and presenting in front of a group
- Self-motivated, capable of working independently
- Basic computer literacy and design skills
- An interest in theatre or history [previous arts experience is an asset]

Our office is located at 12 King Square South. The office is on the third floor of the building, with access via stairs and elevator. Imperial Theatre, a nonprofit performing arts organization, seeks to hire youth to support theatre operations during the summer tourism season in Saint John. Youth will work independently and as a team to handle archive materials related to the theatre’s history, develop content, and provide guided tours to visitors. While learning the day-to-day operations of a theatre, youths will work directly with theatre staff to prepare for the annual season launch event. Youth will also be tasked with developing marketing materials and social media content to promote the new season. Outcomes for youth include experience with teamwork, communication, and client service while working as tour guides to write scripts, deliver the content effectively, and work together while doing so. Also important will be leadership, particularly while supporting other departments in preparation for Season Launch. Youth will be a part of an event team for this process. Digital skills will also be key, particularly for the creation of promotional materials, web content, and social media posts.
The Imperial Theatre has been described as the most beautifully restored theatre in Canada. Since 1913, more than one million people have come to the theatre to attend performances ranging from vaudeville acts to symphonies and ballet. Imperial Theatre is a not-for-profit venue. In addition to its own professional entertainment series, Imperial Theatre provides an outstanding venue for traveling entertainment productions, as well as private presentations, conferences, dinners, conventions, and intimate receptions.
