After creating choreographic works to major musical scores such as The Rite of Spring by Stravinsky, The 24 Preludes by Chopin, and Prélude à l’après-midi d’un faune by Debussy, Marie Chouinard returns to the music of Johann Sebastian Bach, following her earlier piece bODY_rEMIX/les_vARIATIONS_gOLDBERG.

In the studio, working on this piece uplifted the hearts of all who took part. It is this elevation of the soul that Marie and the performers now wish to share with you.
Sung in Latin, Bach’s Magnificat for choir, five vocal soloists and orchestra is imbued with the divine. It is the Virgin who speaks—her voice is powerful, exultant. A newly pregnant woman, she addresses us: she is blessed, sublimely fulfilled. In her gaze, the world is freed from all oppression.

Marie Chouinard choreographs MAGNIFICAT through sweeping group sequences, as well as intimate trios, duets, and solos for 35 minutes of grace.
