Masks mandatory in indoor public places
08 October 2020
FREDERICTON (GNB) – The provincial government announced today that masks will become mandatory in most indoor public places effective at midnight tonight.
“Based upon what we are seeing in our neighbouring provinces and the outbreak in Moncton, we know how quickly the virus can spread through a community,” said Premier Blaine Higgs. “We must take every possible measure to prevent that from happening in our province.”
Masks will become mandatory in most indoor places. This includes:
public spaces where the public and employees interact (retail businesses, malls, service centres, places of worship, restaurants and bars except while eating, etc.) and organized indoor gatherings in public spaces (e.g. weddings, funerals, etc.);
common areas like lobbies, elevators and hallways, and public shared spaces including those in private sector and government workspaces; and
public transportation.
Continuous mask use is still required in seated venues with one metre physical distancing.
Previously existing mask policies continue to apply in hospitals, health care settings, public schools and early childhood learning facilities.
As approved by the Pandemic Task Force, children under two are exempt from wearing masks, as well as those with a medical condition that prevents them from wearing a mask.
Inspection and enforcement officers from the Department of Justice and Public Safety surveyed 600 public spaces across the province to assess how many people were using a mask. They estimated the average number of people wearing masks is 36 per cent.
“Unfortunately, there are too many people who are not wearing their masks when required,” said Higgs. “We recognize this is a major announcement and businesses and individuals may need time to adjust. We are asking for people to comply immediately. Peace officers will be monitoring to ensure people are wearing masks as required.”
There are resources for businesses available on the provincial government’s coronavirus website including signs that can be printed and posted.
“It is about respecting and protecting each other,” said Dr. Jennifer Russell, chief medical officer of health. “Wearing masks or face coverings helps prevent you from unknowingly spreading COVID-19 and helps prevent the people around you from spreading it to you.”
The Imperial Theatre BOX OFFICE will be open to the public beginning Monday, July 27th. Hours will be Monday - Friday from 10am to 5pm. Thank you in advance for respecting safety protocols and Social Distances on site to protect all patrons and staff.
The shows will go on!
Protocols & Procures for Reopening: IT COVID-19 Operational PLan Yellow Phase Building Open
AN OVERVIEW:
Sanitization of public areas
All areas are thoroughly sanitized after every event/performance. This includes lobbies, stairwells, elevator, washrooms, concessions and doors and seats inside the auditorium and out.
Imperial Theatre is now able to open our doors and we will be releasing a schedule of future events soon. We are still currently closed to the public (except by appointment) but will also offer daytime, in-person Box office services again within the month. To help ensure the safety of staff and patrons, Imperial will enact new protocols with regard to its public spaces. We will update this space to announce protocols prior to the first public event as well as supplying in-house signage and pre-show communications to ticket holders. All the best & stay safe!
Due to the recent recommendation from the Office of the Chief Medical Officer of Health New Brunswick to aid in the prevention and containment of COVID-19, Imperial Theatre has postponed/cancelled upcoming events until and including June 30, 2020.
Notices have been sent to all ticket holders and we ask you call our Box Office if you have any questions. BOX OFFICE - 674-4100. They are open Monday to Friday, 10am to 5pm.
More announcements regarding July, August will follow.
Due to the recent recommendation from the Office of the Chief Medical Officer of Health New Brunswick to aid in the prevention and containment of COVID-19, Imperial Theatre has postponed/cancelled upcoming events until and including March 28, 2020.
Ticket holders will be notified and further information will be shared as is available.
“We have been working with artists and clients to determine the best course of action since the Province’s latest recommendation. At this time we have decided to cancel events up until March 28, 2020. These events will ideally reschedule and we will keep audiences informed about new dates. We will continue to monitor the situation daily and make informed decisions based on information from the Department of Health and the Province. Working proactively to help prevent the spread of the virus is a priority we should all be taking very seriously.
Box office will remain open during regular business hours, however we request the public call whenever possible as opposed to visit in person. We thank you for your cooperation and understanding during this time.”
Angela Campbell, Executive Director - Imperial Theatre
Previous general info:
As the coronavirus (COVID-19) situation evolves, the team at Imperial Theatre continues to closely monitor developments locally and globally. We are following official guidance from the Public Health Agency of Canada and New Brunswick Public Health in order to support the health and wellbeing of our community. For now, the Public Health Agency of Canada has assessed the public health risk associated with COVID-19 as low for the general population in Canada.
We want to re-assure everyone that the safety of our audiences, artists, employees, and all of our visitors is our priority. At this time, our performance space, offices, and other public spaces remain open. Should the need to postpone or cancel shows or events arise, we will issue a notice on our website and email ticket buyers. Any decision to postpone or cancel shows or events will be made based on verified information and directives issued by the appropriate public health authorities (such as the Public Health Agency of Canada).
In addition to our regular cleaning procedures we have introduced the following measures:
• Our facilities maintenance team is taking extra care to sanitize all public spaces, including doorknobs, handrails and other surfaces;
• Hand sanitizer is available in our spaces—but the best thing to do is wash your hands (sing Happy Birthday for 20 seconds for proper duration);
• We are asking staff, performers and patrons to stay home if they present symptoms;
• Informational signs are displayed in every restroom reminding visitors and patrons of best practices to promote health and prevent the spread of infection.
Imperial Theatre cares deeply about keeping our communities healthy. We need your attention and help to stay as prepared as possible. Additionally:
• If you are experiencing sneezing, coughing, or fever, please stay home;
• Cover your nose and mouth with a tissue when coughing or sneezing (or an elbow or shoulder if no tissue is available).
